Bridges FC Defeats VV Vliegdorp 6 – 0

In a strong showing, Bridges FC earned our first victory of the European Tour last night in Zeist, Netherlands.  VV Vliegdorp played well technically through combination play and movement off the ball.  However, Bridges was able to frustrate them early and often with defensive pressure.  Throughout the match, Bridges controlled the majority of possession and locked down the defensive end of the field, not allowing a single shot against.  The first half brought about 2 solid goals by Bridges, the first coming from Luis Mojica with a solid shot from the edge of the 18 in the 9th minute.  The 2nd goal came from good combination play between Taylor Bond and Chad Burt, resulting in a slotted ball from Taylor into the 6 yard line with a good first time finish from Chad.

During the second half, Bridges continued to control the majority of possession and to not allow Vliegdorp into the attacking third of the field.  In the 77th minute, the floodgates began to open up with a first time volley finish from Drew Jeskey from a Paul Yonga cross.  In quick succession, Mike Tobie and Nick Janus combined for 2 goals in the 79th and 81st minutes with Nick crossing a ball to a first time finish from Mike each time.  Finally, Nick got on the board again in the 84th minute with a first time finish off a well played cutback ball from Baba Omosegbon.

Bridges played well in this match.  It was a good next step in player development.  It was nice to get a win, however the most important aspect of the match was the effort that all Bridges players displayed throughout the match.  Focus, persistence, discipline, and hard work were exhibited throughout the match by Bridges.  It was a positive step forward.

Bridges plays again tonight (Friday, July 20th) at 7:30 pm Netherlands Time against Udiros.
