Birmingham City: Jonathan Spector says money isn’t everything
February 12, 2012 –
Spector, who has operated in a number of positions to help out his team, feels that Hughton should be praised for the position he has got Blues in at this stage of the season.
And he feels that even if there had been big-money signings in the summer they wouldn’t replace what Blues have managed to achieve.
“I think what we have here is something that you can’t buy with money –a fantastic team spirit,” he said.
“The number of times we have come from behind and scored late goals is a testament to that. So I think it doesn’t matter how much money you have available and how much of it you spend, you can’t get the team spirit and the players to gel like the way we have in such a short period of time.
“It was a difficult task at the beginning for the manager and the players to come together and gel as a unit, particularly with the number of new faces that were here at the club.
“But we’ve managed to do so and I think having the added games and the allure and excitement of the Europa League helped that process.
“We had the extra time together as a group which I think was important for us and it’s certainly showing now with our performances.”
